Christmas at La Preghiera – Umbria, the green heart of Italy

Enjoy a luxurious break over the Christmas season in the elegant surroundings of our 12th Century Umbrian Monastery. At Christmas time, it’s a land rich in romance and tradition quite unlike anywhere else in the world. On Christmas Eve, after a copious breakfast, guests at our exclusive country house can help decorate the stunning Christmas tree. Take a walk in the beautiful countryside after lunch and return for afternoon tea in front of the log fire. Later aperitivo, followed by a traditional Umbrian Christmas dinner served in the magnificent dining room. On Christmas Day, there is the opportunity to take part in a Mass at 11am, or perhaps enjoy a leisurely country walk in the valley: remember temperatures here will be a little warmer than Britain in December, with less likelihood of rain!
Christmas Lunch with Umbrian fare will be served in the dining room, accompanied by a choice of fine local Italian wines and on Boxing Day - St Stephens's day in Umbria – a traditional Umbrian buffet will be served, with guests being able to partake as and when they please.
All the local towns have a packed programme of festivities for those wanting to soak up some Umbrian culture, as well as a little of the Umbrian winter sun.
During the festivities, there will be carols by candlelight in our private chapel, an evening of live classic jazz music and a concert by a guest choir singing a cappella Gregorian, classic, gospel and Italian folk music.
Look out also for a range of special treats – traditional Umbrian delicacies, such as mulled wine, torrone, panforte, panetone, ricciarelli, dried fruits, cavallucci, nuts and many others liqueurs.
